Weapon progression in Helldivers 2 becomes much easier once you understand how mission rewards affect experience. Helldivers 2 Super Credits are a separate part of progression, while weapon XP is directly connected to the mission XP you earn. You do not have to eliminate enemies with the weapon you want to level. Instead, keeping that weapon equipped in your primary slot when the mission ends is enough to receive the corresponding weapon experience.
Because weapon XP follows mission XP, efficient leveling is less about getting kills and more about completing objectives quickly. Choosing missions with strong XP rewards can dramatically reduce the amount of time needed to improve several weapons.
Difficulty is also important. Experienced players can benefit from tackling Super Helldive missions because of their large XP multiplier. However, the highest difficulty is only useful when your team can complete it reliably. A failed operation or a long struggle against overwhelming enemies can reduce your overall XP per hour.
For this reason, choose a difficulty that matches your ability to finish objectives consistently. Speed and reliability generally matter more than simply selecting the hardest available setting.
Solo players can build an efficient farming routine around Blitz: Search and Destroy missions on Automaton planets. Maps with open terrain and good visibility are especially convenient because they make movement and target selection easier.
Light Scout Armor is a practical choice for this style of play. Its mobility helps you move between objectives quickly, while improved radar information can make it easier to detect threats before they become serious problems.
Long-range weapons can further simplify the process. A Quasar Cannon or Recoilless Rifle allows you to attack bot fabricators from a distance rather than entering every enemy position. This reduces the amount of time spent fighting patrols and defending against reinforcements.
The central idea behind a fast Blitz run is to avoid unnecessary battles. After landing, move toward the required objectives rather than clearing every enemy you encounter. If a patrol is not blocking your route, continuing forward can often be more efficient than stopping to fight.
Heavy outposts can also be handled with powerful stratagems. A 380mm or 120mm barrage can create significant damage around enemy positions while allowing you to keep moving. The goal is not to make every area completely safe but to finish the required objectives with as little downtime as possible.
Once the main objective has been completed, consider whether extraction is worth the additional time. For pure XP farming, some players deliberately end the run after completing the required task because extraction can add several minutes while contributing relatively little additional XP.
The strength of the solo method comes from repetition. A short mission followed by another quick deployment can produce a strong XP rate over time. Instead of spending one long session completing every optional objective, focus on a predictable routine that can be repeated with minimal preparation.
This also makes weapon leveling more flexible. You can keep the weapon you want to develop in your primary slot while using other equipment during the actual fight. Since kills with that specific weapon are not required for its XP gain, you are free to choose gear that makes the mission itself easier.
A coordinated squad can approach XP farming differently. Rather than immediately leaving after the main objective, four players can divide the map between them and complete several objectives in parallel.
Two players can concentrate on primary objectives while the remaining teammates handle secondary locations and enemy outposts. This division of labor reduces unnecessary travel and allows the squad to make better use of its combined firepower.
A well-organized team can therefore complete a broad map clear in a relatively short period. The additional objectives increase the mission reward, making this approach useful for players who want a mixture of XP, samples, and other resources instead of focusing exclusively on the fastest possible completion.
Eradication missions offer another option for players who prefer defensive combat. Rather than traveling around a large map, the squad can establish a strong position and allow defensive stratagems to handle incoming enemies.
Mortar Sentries, Rocket Sentries, and Tesla Towers can provide sustained firepower while players concentrate on surviving the waves. This method may not match an exceptionally fast Blitz run for XP efficiency, but it can feel more relaxed because there is less movement and navigation involved.
The best approach depends on how consistently you can complete each mission type. A method that is slightly slower but comfortable may produce better results during a longer play session than a strategy that requires constant precision.
The most important lesson is that weapon leveling does not require you to use one gun for every fight. Put the weapon you want to level in the primary slot before completing the mission, then focus on earning as much mission XP as efficiently as possible.
Solo Blitz runs are useful for short, repeatable farming sessions, while organized squads can earn more by dividing responsibilities and clearing additional objectives. Eradication missions provide another alternative for players who prefer a stationary defensive setup. Once the relationship between mission XP and weapon XP is understood, progression becomes much less demanding. Players working on broader resource goals can separately look into Helldivers 2 Samples while maintaining the same efficient mission routine.
