In the legal profession, adversity is the name of the game. One lawyer is fighting for one side – the other lawyer is fighting for another. There is no doubt that practicing law causes stress and anxiety, which can oftentimes lead to substance abuse and depression.
According to the American Psychological Association, depression is the most likely trigger for suicide, and lawyers are 3.6 times more likely to suffer from depression than non-lawyers. The Centers for Disease Control ranked lawyers 4th in proportion of suicides by profession. Unfortunately, we’ve seen our fair share here in Wyoming.
There is help available. The Wyoming Lawyer Assistance Program – or WyLAP – offers safe, confidential assistance to lawyers who are struggling with the everyday battles of practicing law.
If you are a lawyer that needs help or even if you know a lawyer who is struggling, make the call - (307) 472-1222.
